I am absolutely amazed at the driving skills people are completely neglecting this close to the holidays. They are running red lights and stop signs, blocking the box, tailgating, speeding, and the ever-popular illegal use of cell phones to talk and/or text while breaking all these laws. My personal favorite is when they run the light and block the box at an intersection where cameras are installed. I'd like to think those individuals will eventually pay, via tickets in the mail, for their atrocious driving skills today.
And to think I spent years worrying that Grandma would get run over by a reindeer (thank you for the lyrics, Randy Brooks) when it was really the crazed drivers on the road who are more dangerous.
I mean come on, really, are you that eager to avoid meeting with the relatives that you attempt to either kill yourself by running that completely red light or get arrested for doing the same? For the love of all things sacred, if your car will not clear the intersection before the light changes, you stay put! Uncle Bernie does not want to have to post bail for you when you are arrested for racking up a zillion points on your license.
And what's the rush anyway? Do you really think Aunt Edna is going to be thrilled with that box of scented soaps you are buying her two days before Christmas because you waited too long? I have news for you, buddy...If you are purchasing a boxed set that is being sold for the holidays, you should have picked one out a month or two ago before all the good ones disappeared. Or even better, you should have been actually listening when your grandmother hinted that what she really wants for Christmas this year is Zumba classes.
Please, folks. When you are out rushing around in the chaos that surrounds the holiday, drive safely. No one benefits when you are aggressively erratic and not paying attention while at the wheel of your vehicle. Please drive defensively, and leave the dangerous risk-taking to Santa.
